Police have begun investigations into a Wednesday night East Palo Alto shooting that resulted in the wounding of a Paly student.

According to a letter Paly principal Scott Laurence sent to the school community via the Paly Link, the student is recovering at a local hospital.

Laurence told Paly staff members about the incident in an emergency all-staff meeting during lunch today.

In an interview with The Paly Voice, Laurence spoke about the school security measures being taken in regards to the incident.

"We are taking school security seriously," Laurence said, noting that school resource officers have been notified, and the district has been informed as well.

Also, school security was stepped up at the start of school about a month ago, according to Laurence.

"This is an event in progress," Laurence said, adding that there has not been any information issued to either the school or the public regarding the specific circumstances of the incident.

"We don’t believe it has anything to do with Palo Alto High School, though," Laurence said.
