Hanging over the whiteboards in room 708, a sundry display of origami figures of different colors and shapes decorates the classroom of Paly’s new math teacher, Carole Ng. She learned to make these complicated crafts from her mother while living in Hong Kong, starting when she was four years old.
"My mom was very good at it," Ng said. "I have paper cranes, but there are some origami patterns put together, a bit like teabag folding."
These elaborate shapes not only relate well to her Algebra 1 and Geometry A students, but they also create a welcoming atmosphere.
Paly is not the only school to enjoy the presence of these beautiful decorations. Ng also worked at Independence High School in San Jose and Westmont High School in Campbell.
Fortunately, the transition has been easy for Ng.
"I think Paly is different from the other schools I taught at because the parents are very supportive," Ng said. "Also, the math department is very helpful and friendly and they give me so many notes to work with!"
With this support, Ng expects to inspire her students to enjoy math while also creating an attractive classroom environment with her handiwork.
