Lady Vikes on track for CCS Finals

Despite only a few stellar performances, many Lady Vikes qualified for CCS finals with solid races at the CCS qualifier meet last Saturday.

Paly’s 4-by-100-meter relay team was seeded first in its heat, and came through with a time of 48.34 seconds for the win, placing third overall in the meet, behind Valley Christian and Mount Pleasant by less than a second.

In the 400-meter race, freshman Mia Latanzi was seeded first in her heat. She began the race even with Los Gatos’ Sammi Moser, but around the final turn, Latanzi passed Moser and crossed the line with a time of 57.35 seconds. This time put Latanzi in second place overall, and qualifies her for CCS finals.

In the 100-meter sprint, junior Katy Wanner placed third in her heat in 12.67 seconds, placing her in tenth place in the meet, leaving her nine tenths of a second away from qualifying for the finals.

The 4-by-400-meter relay team was ranked first in its heat and dominated the race. Junior Megan Przblya made a big move to pass St. Francis around the final turn of her leg, then Przbyla passed the baton to Latanzi, who won the race in 4:02.

Przbyla also showed her strength in the 300-meter hurdles, winning her heat and placing fifth overall.

Senior Katrina Zawojski showed impressive numbers in the meet, coming in first place in her heat of the 200-meter placing her third overall, and winning the triple jump with a school record 38’9". Zawojski also qualified in the long jump, coming in second place overall with a jump of 18’9".

The Lady Vikes made good progress in this meet, with steady times to qualify many of them for the CCS finals which take place at Los Gatos High School on Friday at 4 p.m.
