Paly girls track moves to 5-0 after defeating Gunn

Palo Alto High School’s varsity girls’ track team faced cross-town rival Gunn High School at home under the lights, April 21, and proved why it’s undefeated by winning, 92-30.

More people than usual showed up to watch the meet, and the competitors were ready to give them big numbers.

The meet began with the 4×100 meter relay. Paly took the lead early and kept it, and with a good hand off at the end, sophomore Ally Seedman ran through in a time of 51.54 seconds.

Paly’s star of the meet was junior Katy Wanner. She was entered in the 4×100 relay, triple jump, high jump and 100 meter, and won all but triple jump, in which she placed second with a jump of 34’4".

Senior Tori Tyler was Gunn’s only runner who placed first in any event. Tyler ran a 5:13 mile, and 10:56 two mile, which she won with no competition.

Paly freshman Mia Lattanzi set a conspicuous personal record in the 400 meter race, crossing the line in first place with a time of 58.78 seconds. The second place runner in that event came in five seconds after her.

Leading by over 60 points with one event left, Paly decided not to enter the 4×400 meter relay and finished the night with a 5-0 record in the league.

One of the features of the meet was the coaches’ relay, where four coaches from each team ran a lap in formal attire. All of the students cheered on as their coaches competed, and with some help from a golf cart, Paly coaches won to end up the meet.

This week, the Lady Vikes head to leagues, which will take place at Los Altos High School on Tuesday and Thursday at 3:15 p.m.
