Haiku Poetry Contest

The Paly Voice has decided to host a monthly poetry contest. Each month a new form of poetry will be posted up and visitors to the site are encouraged to enter.

The first poetry contest will be a haiku. A haiku has a pattern of lines containing a certain number of syllables that creates a fun rhythm and also is easy to compose. To enter this contest, follow the form below and then submit your entry into the Voice feedback form at http://voice.paly.net/feedback.php with your full name, email, age, school that you currently attend, if any, and what grade you are in. Any age is welcome. If we have enough contestants, then will divide into age categories, but for now there is only one. Please label your poem in the "subject" box "haiku contest."

A haiku follows the format below. The numbers on the left stand for the number of syllables in the line. The poem does not need to rhyme. We have shown an example for your convenience.

5 Sloppy Joes are fine

7 But I like bagels the best

5 ‘Cause they make no mess.

This contest’s deadline is Febuary 3rd. If you miss out, do not worry, another contest is coming up soon. The top ten poems will be published up on the Voice website, and the top three will have the place listed with the poem.
