ASB organizes second “Matchomatics” survey
February 6, 2020
Students are impatiently waiting for the results of the second annual Matchomatics survey hosted by Palo Alto High School’s Associated Student Body.
According to Junior Class President Avantika Singh, the Matchomatics questionnaire aims to help students make new friends around campus. Last year, the Associated Student Body received over 500 responses, and the overwhelming amount of support from the student body prompted ASB to continue the activity.
“We heard very positive things,” Singh said. “It seemed that the student body really liked it, so we decided to do it again.”
Singh said that the purpose of Matchomatics is to give students a list of peers in their grade and other grades whose responses are most similar.
“I personally love Matchomatics because I get to see who, in my grade and other grades, have similar personalities and preferences as me,” Singh said. “I remember meeting new people through this [the list of matches].”
The responses to the survey are sent to the Matchomatics company, which creates a list of matches for each student and mails the printouts to ASB, according to Singh.
Junior Allison Yu said she filled out the survey last year to see if she could match with some of her current friends, but didn’t expect to reach out to new people.
“I didn’t really approach anyone because I’m not the type of person to say, ‘Hey, you’re on my list,’ ” Yu said. “This year, if I do see someone that’s in my class and kind of know them, I would try to be friends with them.”
Students can attain their list of matches on the quad at lunch or room 502 from Feb. 10 to Feb. 12.
