Paly has a reputation for providing some of the best clubs in the area. With about sixty clubs and counting, Paly is sure to offer a club that suits everyone’s interests.
Coming as a new student to Paly, whether as freshmen, sophomore, junior, or even a senior, meeting new friends can be quite challenging. While joining an athletic team can make this transition easier, not everyone identifies with sports. Clubs are a great way to find friends with the same interests as you. "I met a lot of new friends who share the same interests as me and it gave me something to do during lunch," sophomore Lily Feng said, speaking about her involvement in Student Council, Math Club, YCS, and Go Club.
Club day, on Friday, September 17th, is an opportunity to learn about old and new clubs. It also is helpful to decide what clubs suits you or fits your interests. For instance, if you were interested in puzzles, the Puzzle Club would be a great club for you to join according to junior Kelly Starnes. "The puzzle club was a great experience for me," Starnes said. Starnes did not think there was a club at Paly that she could identify with until she found the Puzzle Club.
Not all clubs are fun and whimsical. There are also more serious clubs aimed at community service outreach and enviormental awareness. The Philosophy Club’s main purpose is to allow members to share their personal views on life and world philosphies. Junior Mary Heydron said, "Last year the Philosophy Club talked to people at Lytton Gardens to hear their views. We heard outrageous stories of a woman’s daughter who was in the C.I.A." In addition to local activities, two of the clubs members, Mary Heydron and Anjali Albuquerque, will visit India during winter break to speak to children in poverty about their views on the world.
If you are looking for a way to meet new friends, to have something to do during lunch, or even just looking for a good time, be sure to make it to Club Day on September 17th in the quad.
