Dear Viking: I'm trapped! from "Frustrated Teen"

Dear Viking,
I am having a really hard time with my parents! They are being very annoying and not letting me go out! They say I need to concentrate on my schoolwork…and I try really hard! I do the best I can, but they say it’s not good enough! Telling them what I think will just result in a lot of yelling…what do I do?

Sincerely "Frustrated Teen"

Ok, So first thing we need you to know is that you are not alone. During your teenage years you will most likely run into a lot of problems with your parents. That’s just how we teenagers are. Now, since grades are the main issue, before you try talking to your parents, try talking to your teachers. If you talk to your teachers it may show your parents that you’re trying hard to improve. We suggest you ask your teachers what you can do and how to raise your grade, they will most likely appreciate it, and do their best to help you. Keep in mind that parents want the best for their kids. We also suggest that you put down your feelings on paper as in a letter to your parents. You don’t neccessarily have to give it to them but it will make you feel better and if you decide to give it to them it will be a step in the right direction. Good luck!!

Sincerely, Laverne and Shirley

P.S. We ran this by Mrs. Villalobos and this is what we agreed on, if you have anymore questions feel free to contact her or any other counselors…

You may either go to www.Paly.net and look under Guidance Staff and find any counselor you would like to talk to or call Mrs. Villalobos’ at 650-329-3712.
