The Palo Alto High School softball team (8-8-0) will face off against the Los Altos High School Eagles (12-9-0) today at 4 p.m. at the Paly softball diamond.
Today’s game is the last home game of the season and also Senior Night.
The Vikings lost to Saratoga High School on Tuesday, 8-7, and are looking to bounce back in today’s as their chances at CCS are stake.
“[Tuesday’s] loss was disappointing for us because we have won several of our last games and were looking to continue our win streak,” sophomore Zoe Silver said. “For the next game, we want to come in focused and minimize our fielding errors.”
Although the Vikings are doing well in their league, today’s game will be a tough one as they lost against Los Altos earlier in the season, 12-3.
“This game is different because all season we’ve worked on getting rid of our “bad inning” – basically in games like our [previous] Los Altos game, it would be really close until we lost control in one inning,” senior Elizabeth Schnaubelt said. “We’ve worked on keeping up energy and staying consistent, and I think we’ve really gotten there.”
Additionally, today is senior night, and the team will honor seniors Samantha McBride, Sophie Frick, Elizabeth Schnaubelt and Emilee Guzman.
While the Vikings still have some games left in their season, the seniors are already missed by the rest of their teammates.
“We have four seniors who have all had great careers so we are excited to celebrate them,” Silver said.
Despite the day of celebration, Silver emphasizes the need to concentrate and put more weight on the actual game rather than the celebratory aspect of today’s game.
“We need to make sure that despite these festivities, we focus on the game because it is one of our most important ones all season,” Silver said.
