Dance team to host spring showcase Thursday

The Palo Alto High School Dance team will host its annual Spring Dance Show at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Performing Arts Center.

According to senior captain Marie Davis, the team will be performing nine group pieces and four solos in jazz, hip hop, contemporary and lyrical styles. It will also be performing the three competition dances which the team performed at the USA National competition, where it placed third.

The show will also feature guest performances from the Paly cheer team, Paly dance classes and several other clubs.

“This year differs from last year because it is the first year that the show has all dancers,” head coach Alanna Williamson said. “We are so excited to have dancers from [Paly physical education teacher] Ms. [Alyssa] Bond’s Dance 1 and Dance 2 classes join us in the show, as well as K-pop and Cheer. We also have Gunn’s dance team returning to perform their competition routine.”

According to Williamson, the team is hoping for a larger turnout this year. All proceeds from the show will go towards the team’s budget for next season.

“This year our tickets are only $5 in advance, and with your ticket you will get a free doughnut at the show,” Williamson said. “The proceeds from the show go towards our budget for next year, which includes helping us pay for costumes, competition registration fees, choreographers, etcetera. This year however, we’re less worried about making this a successful fundraiser and more concerned with having lots of people come. So please come out!”

The team has been practicing these dances since the beginning of the year, according to Davis.

“We’ve been practicing all these dances since August, so it means a lot to us if people come watch,” Davis said. “We also don’t have much support from the school so it would be awesome to see people help the program by either buying tickets or raffle prizes.”

Students interested in attending the performance can purchase a ticket on the quad until the day of the show or online through the Facebook event page. Those who are looking to help out the team but aren’t necessarily able to make the show can purchase raffle tickets where participants will be entered to win gift cards from The Cheese House, a free Soul Cycle class and more.
