The Office for Civil Rights for the Department of Education will be coming to Palo Alto High School on Thursday. According to a letter sent out by Interim Supt. Karen Hendricks, representatives will be present at both Palo Alto Unified School District high schools, as well as the district office.

At Paly, representatives will be available to students and staff from 11:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. in rooms 404 and 407.

During this visit, the OCR will monitor an agreement with the district. Signed last year, the agreement “addresses the District’s response to reports and complaints of sexual harassment, and other aspects of Title IX compliance,” according to Hendrick’s letter.

There will be office hours in which staff, parents, students and community members can schedule 10-minute slots to speak with representatives concerning the district’s response to reports and complaints of sexual harassment.

Parents, guardians and community members can speak to representatives from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the District office.

Students can choose to either meet individually with the OCR representative, or may bring a friend, parent/guardian, or colleague.

Those who wish to speak with the representatives can sign up by emailing Laura Welp, an OCR staff member. Students under the age of 18 will be required to bring in a consent form filled out by a parent or guardian.
