The seniors continued their streak of success at the lunch rally today, Day Three of Palo Alto High School’s Spirit Week, by winning first place over the juniors in the relay race.

The theme of the day was “Color Day,” in which the seniors wore green, the juniors wore yellow, the sophomores wore red and the freshman orange. The relay race featured six activities: “Egg on Spoon,” “Neck Grab,” “Wheelbarrow Races,” “Football Game,” “Belly Burst” and “Tarp Carry.”

En route to the championship game, the seniors beat the freshmen while the juniors beat the sophomores. In the next two rounds, the freshmen upset the sophomores in the consolation game, and the seniors followed with a victory of their own.

According to senior Courtney Lovely, the seniors were pleased with the results.

“It felt amazing because the relay is worth a lot of points,” Lovely said. “It gives us a pretty great chance at winning Spirit Week.”

The sophomores, on the other hand, expressed disappointment at their last place finish.

“It’s obviously frustrating, but we’ve done very well the first two days,” sophomore Associated Student Body President Jaiveer Sandhu said. “But we’ll bounce back and we can beat the juniors. I’m not concerned. I’m not concerned at all.”

Despite how the relay debuted certain activities for the first time, junior Spirit Commissioner Cezanne Lane thought that the relay went well.

“I thought that today … went really smoothly,” Lane said. “I was really excited for the activities we chose for it [lunch relay] because a lot of them were new. It was cool to try something new and it worked out which was great.”

Spirit Week will continue with the Night Rally at 7 p.m. tonight at the football field.
