A new “flex time” model will be implemented tomorrow for College Awareness Day at Palo Alto High School.

According to Vice Principal Victoria Kim, freshman, sophomores and seniors will have the option to make up tests, go to classrooms for additional help or study anywhere on campus. In previous years, it was mandatory for students to participate in certain activities pertaining to college.

“We’ve changed this from the freshman and sophomore activities from last year because we wanted students to choose what they felt they needed to do on this day and wanted to give them the gift of time to do complete these academic tasks,” Kim said.

According to the attendance office, attendance won’t be taken for the new system.

Seniors will also have the option of attending a multitude of workshops that are designed to help them with the college application process. The workshops include a question-and-answer session about the application process, guidance with University of California and California State University applications, information on community colleges, help with college interviews, an informational about managing money and assistance with college essays.

According to Kim, the senior workshops were kept because of their past success.

“We still wanted to offer the senior workshops as they have been well-attended and appreciated by seniors in the past,” Kim said.

As for juniors, they will be taking the PSAT. According to, they are advised to bring a calculator, pencils and their student IDs.
