By accident, multiple busloads of students were not breathalyzed before leaving Palo Alto High School on buses to the Prom on Saturday, according to the principal.

Principal Phil Winston said that although the possibility of a randomized screening method was discussed, it never made it past the conceptual stage. The failure to breathalyze every Prom attendee was entirely accidental, said Winston.

“We had talked about it [the possibility of a randomized screening method] but nothing ever passed that stage,” Winston said.

Winston was under the impression that every student had been breathalyzed until he was informed otherwise Monday, April 29.
