Adorned with their eccentric hairstyles, the players on the Palo Alto High School boys’ soccer team carry an age-old tradition into the 2012-2013 season.

This custom, in which players take turns “sabotaging” their teammates’ hairdos, distinguishes varsity soccer players from the rest of the students, according to senior defender Kirby Gee. No matter how humiliating or self-deprecating, the haircuts are seen as fun and can serve as a team-bonding experience.
