Tu: Hey Paly, it’s Jeffrey Tu.
Nagar: And Saachi Nagar, a staff writer on The Paly Voice.
Tu: We’ll be recapping this week’s events in this week’s episode of The Paly Voice’s TONE.
Nagar: Campanile reported that David de Geronimo is going to be Paly’s new head football coach. He previously taught at Greene and Los Altos High School. He’ll be replacing Nelson Gifford.
Tu: The Campanile reported last week that Paly was highly ranked among the top 50 schools in California. According to the US news and world report, the report evaluated 1,600 schools in California, placing Paly at 34.
Nagar: The Paly Voice reported that math teacher Daniel Nguyen is going to be on Jeopardy on May 11. According to Nguyen, appearing on Jeopardy is one of the things on his bucket list that he made after college.
Tu: Palo Alto Online also reported that this week, the week-long strike from nurses at Stanford and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospitals has ended. The strike aimed to get better staffing measures, wage increases, mental health support, and better measures to retain nurses for a longer time.
Nagar: Palo Alto is set to hold their 98th May Fete Parade. This is the first parade since the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival holds a float building contest where the first place winner can win $500.
Tu: Santa Clara County COVID cases are once again ticking up, total case counts have reached 321.9 thousand, 7-day case averages have reached 481. At Paly, cases are up five for students, bring it up to a total of 201.
Nagar: For this week’s fun fact, this year’s Met Gala raised a record-breaking amount of $17 million.
