Transcript:

Tu: Welcome Paly. It’s Jeffrey Tu

Ho: And Brennen Ho.

Tu: We’ll be recapping this week’s events. In this week’s episode of The Paly Voice’s Tone.

Ho: Verde magazine talked about the longstanding stigma surrounding mental health and the barriers preventing minorities from receiving the help they need. Specifically, they talked about how immigrants and refugee parents might not see mental health struggles as worth addressing because they don’t seem as serious compared to the other challenges faced as an immigrant.

Tu: The Campanile reported that freshman Joshua Cow held Lantern Night on the quad. The goal was to help spread awareness around neurodivergency.

Ho: The Campanile reported that Paly is one of the few high schools in the Bay Area that don’t have a gymnastics team, and that creating a school team would help students more easily try the sport. Speaking of sports, Paly athletic director Nelson Gifford said Tuesday that he’ll be stepping down.

Tu: This week, The Paly Voice reviewed the 94th Academy Awards Best Picture nominees, including titles like “Don’t Look Up,” “Nightmare Alley,” “The Power of the Dog,” “Drive My Car,” “Dune,” “King Richard,” and “CODA,” which won the Best Picture award. I really recommend watching Coda. I watched it Monday night and it was really good.

Ho: And in case you live under a rock, specifically a Chris Rock, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during the show for making a joke about his wife’s medical condition. The boys varsity soccer team finished its season when it lost 2-0 to Wilcox, placing it third in the SCVAL League.

Tu: Santa Clara County COVID cases are at 309.5 thousand. 7-day-case averages are at 168. At Paly, the total is 174, up just three from last week.

Ho: And now for a fact of the week. You may be hearing about the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as President Joe Biden is using it to respond to increased oil prices. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is an emergency stockpile established in the early 1970s and stores oil in Louisiana and Texan salt caves in case they are needed.

Tu: This has been the Voice TONE.

Ho: Thanks for listening.
