Ho: Welcome back, Paly. It’s Brennen Ho
Tu: and Jeffrey Tu.
Ho: And this week there are two episodes of TONE.
Tu: The first one is this current recording, and we’ll cover this week’s news at Paly.
Ho: The second one is the next podcast in our playlist, and we’ll cover analysis of Ukraine from Paly teachers.
Tu: So let’s talk about the stories this week. The Paly Voice reported that the campus is planning a tower building renovation. That’s a two year renovation beginning this summer, which is worth $20 million.
Ho: Also from the Voice this week, PAUSD is to drop the masking requirement. Students will no longer be required to wear masks while indoors after March 11, as Superintendent Don Austin announced Monday, following guidance from the California Department of Public Health.
Tu: The Paly Voice previewed Peter and the Starcatcher, which is the new theater program’s production. It started on Friday in the Performing Arts Center and is premiering for the next two weeks.
Ho: Also from The Voice, this week bike thefts have increased with the return to in-person school. A recent check by Principal Kline found over 40 bikes unlocked around Paly bike racks. A reminder to lock your bikes.
Tu: There were two opinion articles from this week. One was about the end of the SAT and talked about how the SAT moved online, and why that’s a bad thing. The second one was about Russian aggression and talked about how the US, as well as the West, should use economic punishments rather than military forces.
Ho: Let’s talk about sports. This week, Paly’s dance team won an award for their contemporary piece in the X-Small category. The category encompasses routines of five or fewer dancers, and Paly placed fourth out of eight teams.
Tu: Our varsity boys lacrosse team also lost to Archbishop Mitty 4-16 on Saturday night.
Ho: Girls basketball beat Sacred Heart 47-43 after trailing by 10 points at the start of the second half.
Tu: Santa Clara County COVID case counts have reached 305,000, with 7-day-averages plummeting to 275. Palo Alto High School case counts are now at 164, just one up from last week.
Ho: For our fun fact of the week, did you know that the first “Your Mom” joke known currently was written down in ancient Babylon in 3500 BCE?
Tu: This has been the voice tone.
Ho: Thanks for listening.
