Shoppers rush toward the exits at Westfield Valley Fair on Black Friday after police responded to a shooting that wounded three people and sent the mall into lockdown and evacuation. According to sophomore Maya Rajgopal, the experience changed how safe she feels in public spaces. “That one day made me realize anything can happen at any time to make you feel unsafe,” she said.

Palo Alto High School's senior class prepares to run onto the Earl Hansen Viking Stadium field to perform their class dance. Senior Juli Spreckelmeyer said performing with her class for the final time was both fun and meaningful. “It was really fun,” Spreckelmeyer said. “I think doing the class dance with everyone was such a great time because it's a time where you really connect as a class after four years of going to school together. I'm really excited to do the dance again tonight at the game.”

The Canadian Snowbirds soar in formation above the San Francisco waterfront during Fleet Week on Sunday afternoon. Frequent Fleet Week attendee Jordan Ellis said the Royal Canadian Air Force team headlined this year’s air show after the U.S. Navy Blue Angels canceled their performance due to the ongoing government shutdown. “They’re amazing to watch — it’s cool seeing another country’s team step in,” Ellis said. “It’s not the same without the Blue Angels, but the Snowbirds definitely kept the excitement alive.”

Members of the dance team performed their routine during the first rally of the year after school on Friday in Palo Alto High School's Big Gym. Junior Orly Schube, a member of the dance team, said the crowd’s energy influenced their performance and helped increase school spirit. “The louder and the more supportive the crowd is, the better," Schube said. "It really excites us for the year and football games.”
