The Teen Arts Council will hold auditions for its upcoming Hurricane Music Festival from 2 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Lucie Stern Community Center
The Hurricane Music Festival is a free, open-to-the-public event aimed at promoting and exposing local bands and talent in the music community. The Teen Arts Council, which is sponsoring the event, encourages those interested to audition for a slot in the four-hour festival, which is aimed at a largely teenage audience.
Audiences can attend the auditions for a sneak peak at the band lineup and for refreshments plus a small potluck. The main event in May will feature food truck vendors.
Steffan Salas, a homeschooled sophomore and coordinator for the event, hopes the festival will attract talent of all kinds to Mitchell Park, where the event will take place on May 12.
“We’ll be providing a truly great gig for young, talented, new bands to join with audiences for hours of music on end,” Salas said. “The auditions will be open to all genres, as long as there’s live performance involved and people are playing instruments.”
Equipment such as a public address system is available for use at both the audition and the main event for bands that need it, according to Salas.
This is the first Hurricane Music Festival, but the Teen Arts Council hopes that it will be a recurring event in the future.
“It’s a really important event to put on and I hope to see it grow and expand in the future,” Salas said.
