Girls’ flag football games begin next week at lunch on the quad, as part of a long-standing Paly tradition called Powderpuff, according to the Facebook event page.
Sophomores and juniors will face off in the first match on Monday, followed by the freshmen and seniors on Tuesday. The consolation finals will be held on Wednesday, and the first-and-second seeded teams will compete on Thursday. The juniors are looking to defend their championship title, according to junior Ben Sneider, who is coaching them.
“Defense is going to be our strong suit,” Sneider said. “As long as we can put in a touchdown or two each game, I’m confident that we can hold a lead to win the championship.
The teams have been practicing and learning new plays for weeks, according to sophomore Erik Anderson, who is coaching the sophomore team. He believes that the sophomores can pull off an upset.
“It is always hard to take on defending champions in any sport, but when game time comes around, it all depends on who wants it more,” Anderson said. “The competition is fierce, and the pressure is on.”
Anderson encourages everyone to come out to the quad next week and support their fellow Vikings.
