The Vikings (15-5-0, 25-9-0), the third seed in playoffs, are moving on in the Central Coastal Section tournament after overpowering visiting 14th seeded Monta Vista High School in a, 10-2, rout at Palo Alto High School today.
The Vikings jumped out, 6-0, in the first two innings behind a barrage of hits by senior right fielder Christoph Bono and junior center fielder Bijon Boyd. Between the two, they accounted for three RBI’s off of two doubles and a single.
Senior starting pitcher Graham Marchant came off of a complete game shutout against Wilcox High School to throw four innings, allowing two earned runs in the top of the fifth inning. Senior Sam Maliska then relieved Marchant, and along with junior reliever Kevin Kannappan, did not allow another run against Paly.
The Vikings added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when junior Justin Grey hit his first home run of the season, scoring two RBI’s and pushing the lead to 10-2.
The Vikings will advance to the next round of the Central Coast Section Division I tournament as a result of today’s victory. They will play Saturday at a time and location TBD, against the sixth seeded Homestead High School.
