An April 23 traffic accident in San Francisco involving a West Valley charter bus hired by Palo Alto High School to transport students from prom resulted in no injuries, according to Principal Phil Winston.
“It appeared that the car ran into the bus and hit the bus,” Winston said. “Because it happened on a [highway] on-ramp, it was a CHP [California Highway Patrol] issue. The bus had to be held and there was a manifest, so everybody’s name and contact information had to be given to the CHP.”
Students were transported back to Paly on an empty bus and arrived on campus around 1 a.m., Winston said.
“The company had an empty bus sent to pick passengers up,” Winston said. “As soon as the injured bus was released, students hopped on the new bus and came home.”
Paly was not involved in the aftermath of the accident, as West Valley Charter Lines has its own insurance. Winston said he was pleased with the way the situation was handled and would hire the company again.
“These things are far and few in between, and they provided explemary service to us, and I have no doubt that we’ll continue to use this company in the future,” Winston said.
