INfocus, Palo Alto High School’s broadcast journalism program, has promoted three of its staff members to the position of producer, according to executive producers Katie Maser and Wes Rapaport.
Juniors Lindsay Beisheim, Nick Forlenza and Sarah Miller are now eligible to become executive producers once the current executive producers have graduated.
“We decided to promote Lindsay, Sarah and Nick because they proved to us that they were truly committed to the program and what we stand for,” Rapaport said. “Their behavior in class showed us that they want INfocus to succeed and will go beyond the regular coursework and projects to make that possible.”
“I’m really excited to get a chance to work more closely with the current producers,” Miller said. “It’s really cool to be learning how to do their job while they’re still here so the transition into next year is smoother.”
The producers have already begun training with Rapaport and Maser, and will continue to learn how to run the program until the end of the year, when the new executive producers will be announced.
However, “this does by no means close the decisions for producer,” Rapaport said. “We just want to have some of the faces you will likely see leading the program next year step into a leadership role now so they can help prepare to take INfocus in the direction we all envision.”
The new producers also expressed their interest in increasing INfocus’ credibility.
“I am definitely interested in becoming an executive producer next year, and I would like to see INfocus obtain more credit as a respected Paly publication,” Beisheim said. “It has been awesome to be a part of the transformation that has occurred in the program this year. In my leadership position as a producer, I would love to do everything I can help that progression continue, both this year and next year.”
Like many INfocus staff members, Beisheim is already looking forward to pursuing a career in broadcast journalism.
“Broadcast is definitely something that I would be interested in doing later in life,” said Beisheim. “We are lucky to have fast accessibility to the public, which allows television broadcasts to often be one of the quickest and most visual ways to spread the news.”
According to Maser, the decision to promote Beisheim, Forlenza and Miller was made through extensive consultation with the program’s advisers, Mike McNulty and Ellen Austin.
“We see tremendous leadership potential in Lindsay, Nick and Sarah, and believe they will continue to channel INfocus in the right direction,” said Maser.
