Monday’s schedule is the normal “A” schedule for advisory days, with second period followed by advisory, fourth period and sixth period. On Tuesday, all honors math students must arrive at 8:15 a.m. to take the 75-minute AMC while other students must arrive at 10:15 a.m. for first period.
“The AMC is the first preliminary phase for the Math Olympiad,” said Radu Toma, who is the instructional supervisor of the math department. “The federal government does a selection process for the team of six to represent the US.”
The top five percent of the AMC-12 and AMC-10 test-takers will go on to the next round in the selection process. Toma aims to have around 30 Paly students qualify for this stage.
“All you can do is hope for the best,” he said.
Wednesday and Friday have a normal “B” Schedule with odd blocks. Thursday will be a “T” (tutorial) Schedule altered for a Winter Rally at brunch.
“The winter rally consists of several games incorporating both students and staff members,” said Uma Veerappan, who is the Associated Student Body Vice President. “It’s a great opportunity for students to take their minds off of schoolwork and spend some time relaxing.”
A full monthly schedule can be found on the Paly website.
