Students and parents interested in participating in Palo Alto High School’s fourth annual campus tour should meet outside the Student Center quad area at 1 p.m. on Saturday, according to Assistant Principal Kim Diorio.
“The public can meet there and we’ll break off into different groups to lead them on the tour,” Diorio said. “The tour lasts about an hour and it’s very informal. We’ll talk about some of the fun facts and stories about Palo Alto High School as we hit the different parts of the buildings.”
Tours will be led by staff members, administrators, teachers, parent volunteers, Associated Student Body representatives and some Link Crew students, according to Diorio.
Diorio said that typically 250 people attend, mostly incoming eighth graders and their families. She added that they will not be able to see classes in session, but they will be able to check out the classrooms and other campus highlights, including the library, glassblowing station, auto workshop and engineering technology area.
Diorio stressed the event is open to the public and anyone is welcome to attend.
“They [participants] don’t have to be Jordan [Middle School] or JLS [Jane Lanthrop Stanford Middle School] students,” Diorio said. “They can be from a private school or students outside of the district.”
The campus tours cap off a week of high school preparation sessions at Palo Alto Unified School District middle schools.
“This week the counselors have been in eighth grade classrooms talking to students about course selection and registering for classes for high school,” Diorio said. “We had our open house on Tuesday night, and yesterday, we had some parent information workshops for parents of eighth graders.”
“It’s just another way to have them come check out Paly and show them what a great school we are,” Diorio said.
