Palo Alto High School will host a community service fair on Wednesday. The event will take place on the quad at lunch and students will be able to discover more about a variety of community service opportunities and organizations.
Paly’s coordinator of community service, Christina Owen, is in charge of this event.
“We have about 20 organizations that are coming to the fair,” Owen said. “Some organizations are My New Red Shoes, One Million Lights, Palo Alto Farmers Market, Friends of the Library, Palo Alto Media Center. We also have a few more clubs that mainly focus on community service such as the American Disaster Relief.”
The organizations that are attending will provide sign-up sheets for students who wish to contribute to their efforts or get involved in their cause.
“Students can come and add their information to the contacts list,” Owen said. They can receive information about the organizations and community service opportunities that they give.”
Owen encourages students to drop by the fair to see what opportunities they can find.
“Come and talk face to face with the representative from the organization, because it is better if you do community service in something that you’re really interested in,” Owen said. “And if you just want random community service, come and sign up on their contact list. It’s a great time to find out about organizations you didn’t know about.”
