Pakistani flood awareness advocate Iftikhar Ahmed will speak to Palo Alto High School on Thursday, Oct. 28 during tutorial in the ERC. The American Disaster Relief Club and the American Red Cross Club decided to postpone the event to have time to generate more publicity.
“We didn’t think there was enough time to advertise the event, and we wanted to make sure we had a good student turnout,” Launer said.
The speaker from the organization Humanity First, invited by the American Red Cross and American Disaster Relief clubs at Paly, will describe the organization’s relief efforts in Pakistan, according to ARC President Karine Hsu.
“We’ll be having Iftikhar Ahmed come to talk about the recent flood in Pakistan and how he and the organization are involved in responding to the disaster,” Hsu said. “It will be similar to the career speaker presentations, such that students will be able to get extra credit from their teachers if they write a short reflection and if the teachers agree.”
Students should be able to check in to the ERC using their student ID cards for the tutorial period, according to Hsu.
