The Viking boys placed sixth out of the 41 teams competing at the meet and fell four points short of reaching their goal of placing among the top five schools. Bellarmine College Preparatory captured its 26th consecutive CCS title, scoring 384 points total— 168 points more than Valley Christian High School, who placed second. The Vikings finished the meet with 109 points.
Sophomore team captain Byron Sanborn stunned the team with his dynamic performance and excellent time, according to sophomore Corso Rosati. Sanborn secured first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming an All-American time of 57.75 seconds.
To kick-start the meet, the Vikings placed third in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:39.43. The relay team consisted of senior Bobby Abbott, juniors Arseniy Kotov and D.J. Fotsch, and Sanborn.
While the Vikings were unable to reach their goal of placing in the top five, the boys have improved from last year’s seventh place finish in CCS.
Editor’s Note: The relay mentioned in the second-to-last paragraph was the 200-yard medley and consisted of sophomore Byron Sanborn, juniors Arseniy Kotov and D.J. Fotsch, and senior Bobby Abbott. The current version of the story reflects this change.
