Tosky swam a time of 1 minute 44 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle, a blistering All-American time that was well under the section record by three seconds.
Then, in her second individual event of the day, Tosky set a new record of 52.84 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly. Tosky’s time crushed the old record, held by Paly graduate and current University of California, Berkeley swimmer Colleen Fotsch, by an incredible two seconds.
Amazingly, both records came without the aid of the full body suits that were highly popular at last year’s CCS championship. With new high school rules banning the use of body suits, this year’s field did not have the time drop advantage that the suits provided last year.
After qualifying, the Vikings are currently seeded nine points behind rival Archbishop Mitty. However, because qualifying does not factor in to the final result , the girls have the opportunity to increase the number of points they earn by moving up places during finals tomorrow.
Competition for both boys and girls begins at 2 p.m. at the Santa Clara International Swim Center in Santa Clara.
More information on the girls’ CCS championship to come.
