Supt. Kevin Skelly will recommend current Gunn High School Assistant Principal Phil Winston to replace resigning Palo Alto High School Principal Jacqueline McEvoy, the Palo Alto Unified School District said Thursday.
Winston, currently an assistant principal at Gunn, will seek the formal approval of the school board on May 11.
Winston moved to PAUSD in 2005 after a six-year tenure as a teacher in the Milpitas Unified School District, according to a press release from the school district. He began in PAUSD as a teacher at JLS Middle School and moved on to Gunn to become dean of students in 2006 and an assistant principal in 2007.
Winston earned a BA in psychology from California State University, Hayward, and two masters degrees, in special education and educational administration, from Santa Clara University.
Skelly will also recommend the appointment of Katya Villalobos to replace retiring Gunn principal Noreen Likins. Villalobos is currently a teacher at Gunn. She is also a former Paly social studies teacher and assistant principal.
“We had a strong pool and this choice was very difficult,” Skelly said earlier today.
“I am extremely pleased to have two great recommendations to bring to the Board, both of whom come from our talented administrative staff,” Skelly later said in a statement. “I look forward to working with both Katya and Phil in their new roles.”
