The Paly Mock Trial team is currently competing in the Constitutional Rights Foundation‘s tournament, with preliminary rounds that began Tuesday, Feb. 2, at the Santa Clara County Superior Courthouse.
The team is presenting a fictional first-degree murder case involving a comedian, senior defendant Eoin Whitney, who has murdered one of his critics, according to sophomore Lauren Garland.
The trial opens with pretrial arguments presented by senior pretrial attorney Oana Enache. Next, each side gives opening statements, followed by witness testimony from Garland, junior Arielle Fishman, and freshman Sophie Dumas.
Both teams will wrap up the case with their closing arguments. Defense attorneys include senior Nicolas Dumas, and juniors Rachel Stober and Alex Sholtz.
The team is facing off against Monta Vista High School prosecution.
The tournament will take place at the Santa Clara County Superior Courthouse over the course of this month, according to Nicolas Dumas.
“There are four prelims [preliminary rounds] and we fully expect to win at least three of them,” he said.
Enache also has high expectations.
“Of course, I hope to do great,” she said. “We are going to take it one step at a time.”
