The seniors out-cheered the rest of the school to grab first place at the first Spirit Week rally during lunch today on the quad.
The seniors are in the lead with 380 points, followed closely by the juniors with 336 points. The sophomores are in third with 242 points, and the freshmen are trailing in last place with 187 points.
For theme day, freshmen dressed up as construction workers and the sophomores dressed up as superheroes. The juniors rocked a jungle theme, and the seniors donned 90s attire. Seniors wore styles from the decade in which they were born, instead of dressing up in accordance with their “money” theme.
The seniors dominated in the first game of the day, musical chairs. With the freshmen eliminated first, the seniors, juniors, and sophomores were left to battle it out for the final few chairs. ASB set the tone for the game with music from the 90s, such as songs by the Spice Girls.
The final round between senior Connor Raftery and junior Miles Anderson was too close to call, with Anderson diving onto the chair, and Raftery sitting on top of him. ASB decided to redo the final round, and the Raftery ended up victorious, scoring the seniors 100 points.
Next up was the sponge relay, in which two boys and two girls from each class raced to fill a bucket using water from a sponge. The juniors beat the sophomores in the preliminary round and advanced onto the finals.
In the following round, the freshmen were victorious after senior Emily Yeates knocked the senior team’s bucket over.
The juniors and the freshmen faced off in the final race, with the class of 2011 coming out on top. The win earned the juniors 100 points.
A cheer-off decided the winner in the best-dressed competition. After the first round of cheering, only senior class representatives Tess Pang and Walker Harden, and junior class representatives, Nabeel Sami and Mary Albertolle, were left standing. Both classes scored 100 points. The sophomores placed behind the upperclassmen, scoring 75 points, and the freshmen scored 50 points.
ASB deducted 10 points from the freshmen for neglecting to pick up their trash, and 25 points from the juniors for unsportsmanlike behavior, namely throwing bananas.
ASB also added points to each grade for the number of students who attended the Homecoming dance on Saturday. The freshmen scored 22 points from dance attendance, followed by the seniors, who scored 17 points; the sophomores, who scored 17 points; and the juniors, who scored 11 points.
Spirit Week will continue tomorrow with salad dressing day. Freshmen will be athletes (Healthy Choice), sophomores will be cowgirls and cowboys (Ranch), juniors will be islanders (Thousand Island), and seniors will wear togas (Caesar).
Tomorrow’s lunchtime rally will be at the pool, not on the quad, according to ASB.
