Chris Lo: And I am Chris Lo. And we are from The Paly Voice doing a preview on the boy’s soccer game this Friday.
PH: The 2008-2009 Paly team has its 3rd home game this season and faces Gunn HS in its 2nd league game. Leading the Paly Vikings is a string of five senior players in center midfielder Adam Zernik, outside midfielder Michael Hanabusa, defensive players Kevin Ashworth and John Christopherson, in addition to star goalie Peter Johnson.
CL: Paly has posted a 7-0-1 record and is hoping to continue their undefeated streak deep into the season. In only eight games so far, the Vikings have scored an astonishing 22 goals, while only giving up three. This is a testament to head coach Don Briggs as he has used the individual talents he has on the roster to foster a winning team atmosphere.
PH: In addition to the seniors, Briggs has a large assortment of junior and sophomore players that provide the team with an explosive scoring component. Although following Zernik’s six goals and five assists is certainly hard to do, junior forward Spencer Sims has done his best Zernik impression and added six goals and one assist. Next in line on the offense is fellow junior striker John Anderton, who has added five goals himself.
CL: Paly faces a 4-3-2 Gunn team that is comprised of 22 players, nineteen of which are juniors and seniors. Up until the 2007-2008 campaign, Paly had won out against Gunn in five straight seasons. Nevertheless, then-junior Ryan Wood scored with just four minutes left to give the Titans their first victory in 11 match-ups.
PH: This Friday at 3:30 p.m., the Vikings will be looking to redeem themselves against their cross-town rival.
CL: Thank you for listening. I’m Chris L.
PH: And I’m Philip Homnack for The Paly Voice.
