What began as an ordinary lunch period turned into a staged wedding ceremony today as seniors gathered in front of the Palo Alto High School Haymarket theatre for a senior prank featuring a wedding party, an officiant, a dramatic objection and a post-ceremony dance party.
The mock wedding was held between seniors Abers Boyarsky and Delilah Kaplinsky and was attended by a large group of seniors. The event had originally been planned for the Quad, but organizers moved it to the Haymarket shortly before the ceremony began.
Class President James Park officiated the ceremony, taking on the role of “Pastor Park.” Bridesmaids and groomsmen stood alongside the Boyarsky and Kaplinksy as around 100 students crowded around the area to watch.”

The ceremony followed the format of a traditional wedding, but with a comedic twist. When Park asked if anyone objected, senior Henry Gross interrupted the ceremony, professing his love for Kaplinsky. The groomsmen then chased him away, allowing the ceremony to continue.
Paly Librarian Debroah Henry said the staged objection was also a highlight for faculty and staff watching nearby.
“My favorite part was when Pastor Park asked if there were any objections, and sure enough, what looked like a jilted lover ran up and wanted to stop the wedding,” Henry said. “However, the groomsmen sprang into action, tackled him, and the wedding went forward. I thought it was a very funny, great senior prank.”

After the interruption, the ceremony continued and ended with a hidden kiss behind a bouquet. Kaplinsky then tossed the bouquet to the crowd, completing the wedding ceremony.
Following the ceremony, the seniors moved to the senior deck, where the prank continued with music and dancing. Students gathered for a dance party, turning the mock wedding into a larger senior celebration.
The prank added a lighthearted moment to the school day and gave seniors another shared memory as the end of the year approaches.
In the end, the couple, the wedding party, and the crowd all got their fairytale ending and, as the story goes, they all lived happily ever after.
