After a successful season (7-7-3), the Palo Alto High School girls’ soccer team looks to improve on last year’s performance and make a deep playoff run in the 2025-2026 season.
The Vikings finished third in the SCVAL De Anza league and earned the number two seed in the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs last year.
They advanced through the first round, defeating the Soledad Aztecs (17-3-1), but ultimately lost to the Mountain View Spartans (12-8-2).
According to Viking senior Reyes Aronson, the team has grown a lot individually from last year.
“Since most of us play club, most of us have gotten a lot better as individuals,” Aronson said. “For our newcomers, we are going to see how they do.”
According to Aronson, the team is working on strategy and fitness to get ready for the season.
“We have been doing a lot of fitness, which is different from last season,” Aronson said. “We have been training to do a 3-5-2 [defense] and we have been working formation,” Aronson said.
According to Viking head coach Jeremy Romero, the Vikings have a very different team from last year, but that it shows promise.
“I believe we have a lot of talented players this year,” Romero said. “We have different personnel on the team to compare from last season, but one thing I am certain of is we will give every team we go against hell. This season will come down to what can we make of it. It won’t come down to other teams.”
According to Romero, the Vikings have great work ethic and will fight for every game.
“We are really good at making practices competitive to bring the best out of one another,” Romero said. “We like to have hard practices and easy games rather than easy practices and hard games. Everyone loves to see the wins for games but the real wins come from how hard you practice.”
According to Romero, the Vikings are targeting and expecting a successful playoff run.
“I believe our team will compete with the best,” Romero said. “We have nothing but exceptional players and I expect us to make a good run this season.”
The Vikings will play their first regular-season game at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 against the Gunn Titans at at Henry M. Gunn High School.
