Kicking off Spirit Week, the seniors took home the first ‘best-dressed’ competition at brunch today on the Quad, with sophomores coming in second, juniors in third and freshmen in fourth.
Senior winners Sarah Thieman and Maeva Herbert-Paz scored their victory by showing up in both green suits and pickle costumes.
According to Herbert Paz, she wanted to elevate her outfits this year.
“It’s senior year, so it’s time to go all out,” Herbert-Paz said. “We wanted to do more than just the green suits this year.”
Although the judges awarded seniors first place, judge and economics teacher Grant Blackburn said he felt pressured into making the decision.
“I felt a lot of peer pressure from my fellow judges,” Blackburn said. “I didn’t choose the seniors. I would’ve chosen a different class, but I won’t reveal my decision now. All of the outfits were fine, but I’m looking forward to the rest of the week.”
Sophomore Ela Aba is thrilled to have gotten second place over the juniors, having put everything she had into her outfit.
“I put on every green thing I could,” Aba said. “Everything from Amazon and Shein that was green, I bought.”
Despite not winning first place, Aba thinks the seniors’ win was deserved.
“The seniors deserved to win because Sarah and Maeva had the pickle outfits which were really good,” Aba said.
Associated Student Body Spirit Commissioner Arabella Guinle is looking forward to everything else Spirit Week has in store.
“I love all of the spirit, all of the energy and all of the creative outfits,” Guinle said. “We can look forward to the night rally and all the float building, and the end of week rally with all of our dances and floats.”
