Raymond Nasr is a Palo Alto resident and the current president of the Churchill Club.
Nasr attended Cambridge for two years, studying law. In 1995 he worked at Sun Microsystems and also worked in public relations and corporate speech-writing at Apple Computers. He was also the Director of Corporate Relations at Novell Inc.
Eventually, Nasr worked himself up to the position of Director of Executive Communications at Google. Now a high roller in Silicon Valley, Nasr is also a Palo Alto High School alumni and a strong proponent of high school journalism. He himself wrote for Palo Alto High School’s The Campanile in 1976 and cites Woodward and Bernstein as two of his personal heroes.
“I highly recommend studying journalism or communications in college” says Nasr. “It’s a very rewarding field of study.”
Nasr even designed his own journalism tool based on the design of a clock. He believes that stories can be categorized into four categories, top of the hill, perched for the fall, in the dumpster, and turnaround. All of these types of stories involve different journalistic intent to cover.
Nasr believes that creating and utilizing visual tools like this help journalists to thrive. “Use your personal talents to take yourself forward” says Nasr.
