An upperclassman arrested after being found drunk in public on Tuesday, May 23 and will face a suspension for "being under the influence," according to police and school officials.
According to PAPD records, the student received a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct in public, and will possibly receive a citation for underage drinking.
"The student will be suspended for anywhere from two to five days," said assistant principal Douglas Walker following Tuesday’s incident.
According to witnesses, an ambulance came later to treat him on a stretcher to treat the handcuffed student.
"The paramedics came and took the student for an assessment," said Walker.
A partially full bottle of Graygoose Vodka and a crack pipe were found in the student’s backpack when it was searched after the student was taken by the police, according to a school security official who wanted to keep his identity hidden. It is not known whether the crack pipe had been used on the day of the incident.
The possession of any illegal substances found in the student’s backpack will be dealt with by the Palo Alto Police Department, as stated by the school administration.
At this time the Palo Alto High School administration has made no decision as to whether Tuesday’s incident will affect the student’s privilege to graduate.
