Day Three of Spirit Week kicked off with the “Hula Hoop” Brunch rally, during which 10 participants from each grade held hands and passed a hula hoop to the end of the line and back in the shortest amount of time.
A close race occurred in the first round between the seniors and the freshmen. In the second round, the juniors defeated the sophomores while in the third round, the sophomores defeated the freshmen.
In a heated final round with the juniors and seniors, the seniors originally took the lead with the juniors close behind. Soon, the seniors pulled ahead and excitedly won their first rally game for 200 points.
Overall, the juniors took second place in the Brunch rally, followed by the sophomores and the freshmen.
During Lunch, students made their way to the football field, where an extensive set of stations was arranged as a relay race for each grade.
At the first station, each player was required to place a tennis ball between their knees, moving it around a cone and back without dropping it. This process was to be repeated by two other players, with the final player running to the next station and high-fiving a teammate. At the second station, players sucked through a toilet paper roll to pick up two different ornaments, which were to be placed on a string. At the third station, players took a cup from a marked line on the field, ran to the other side and fully filled up a milk jug that lay on top of another player’s head. At the fourth station, two players took a balloon and moved it to the other end by holding it between their chests. At the end, they popped the balloon by chest bumping. Finally, one player ran to victory by holding its ankles to the finish line.
The seniors were victorious in the first round against the freshmen. In the second round between sophomores and juniors, the sophomores took an early lead, but the juniors soon caught up and prevailed. In the third round with the freshmen far behind, sophomores took third place, with the freshmen coming in last.
In the final round between juniors and seniors, the juniors held the lead in all stations and brought their grade to victory for 400 points.
“Juniors are doing really well, and I hope that we can keep it up throughout the rest of the week and hopefully pull out a win,” junior Bryn Carlson said.
Despite the loss in the lunch rally, the seniors’ first victory gives senior Jamie Garcia hope.
“I’m a little disappointed in our performance so far this week, but I think that we will pull through in the end,” Garcia said.
Sophomore Cezanne Lane is proud of her grade’s performance thus far in the week.
“I’m really proud of my grade, and I think they pulled it together,” Lane said. “We’re really hoping to improve our points on the scoreboard, but as a class, we’re doing really well.”
While the other grades remain hopeful, some freshmen are beginning to become disappointed with their performance.
“We have the spirit but we’re not coordinated at all,” freshman Jackson Hall said. “I feel like we’re doing okay but every other grade has already done this before … so we’re not ready for this at all.”
Today’s scores will be posted by ASB after float building tonight. Keep checking The Paly Voice for more Spirit Week related information.
