The Palo Alto High School girls’ varsity soccer team (8-3-4, 5-1-3) will host Mountain View (7-2-5, 4-0-4) on Friday in their eighth league game of the season. This will be the second time that the two teams meet this season after tying 2-2 in their January 17 matchup at Mountain View. Mountain View is at the top of the table in the SCVAL De Anza League standings, with Palo Alto in fourth, right in the middle of the standings.
Senior midfielder Jess Branson is looking forward to the rematch with confidence.
“When we first played them we were still getting used to playing together,” Branson said. “We’re twice as strong now that we know each person’s strength on the field.”
With the rematch to take place on home turf, the Lady Vikings look to upset the league leaders.
“We’re more comfortable with the field because we practice here every day,” Branson said. “It also helps to have home fans come and support, and cheering the team on always gives more burst to the athletes.”
The game is set for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff tomorrow at Paly, and with only three league games left in the season before the playoffs, the Vikings look to finish strong as their chemistry improves towards the end of the season.
