After a 3-1 victory against Los Altos High School, the Palo Alto High School boys’ soccer team will play its second league game of the season against Santa Clara High School tomorrow at Paly.
Santa Clara came in third place in the De Anza League last year, and it will be Paly’s first time playing Santa Clara since Paly was demoted to the El Camino League in 2012. After a successful 2013 season, the Vikings are back in the De Anza League.
Sophomore midfielder Siddharth Srinivasan says he hopes Paly will be able to maintain the competitive spirit of its last game.
“For tomorrow, we would like to work on bringing high intensity to the beginning of the second half and continuing to stay defensively solid,” Srinivasan said. “We don’t know much about Santa Clara, so we are going to try to carry on the intensity from the last game and get another good result.”
Junior midfielder Fernando Rodriguez scored the first two goals in yesterday’s game, and Srinivasan followed up to score the third from the 35-yard-line, solidifying Paly’s lead over Los Altos.
“It was a great performance [by Paly] given that it was our first league game back from the lower division,” Srinivasan said. “We did well to get a 2-0 lead. When they scored early in the second half, we did really well to prevent them from scoring an equalizer and went on to push for a third goal.”
Junior center back Steven Blatman echoed Srinivasan’s analysis.
“We were a little shaky early on, but after that we really played well and pulled off a solid win,” Blatman said. “We could work on our organization in defense and try to play a little calmer.”
The Vikings will kick off against the Bruins at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at Paly’s El Camino Field.
