The Palo Alto High School girls’ varsity basketball team will play its first non-league game of the season against Westmont High School at 4 p.m. Monday in the Paly Big Gym.
The Vikings ended last season with a 9-14 record overall, including a 5-7 record in the De Anza league, according to Maxpreps.com. This year, the Vikings have a relatively young team led by only two seniors, Hope Crockett and Charlotte Alipate. The roster is largely dominated by sophomores.
“As a young team we are still developing,” Crockett said. “But I am very happy with where we are at at this point in the season.”
The Westmont Warriors of Campbell, Calif. ended last season going 8-6 in the Mount Hamilton league, and 15-11 overall.
Crockett believes tomorrow’s game will serve as a road test for the rest of the season.
“This game should be a good test to see how well we can incorporate the things we’ve been doing in practice, ” she said. “Right now we are focusing on getting better in preparation for the season and this should help us.”
