The Palo Alto High School boys’ water polo team will take on Lynbrook High School in the De Anza League SCVAL quarter-finals tonight at home.
The Vikings already beat Lynbrook twice in league with scores of 16-11 and 14-9. Currently, the Vikings are seeded second in the league, behind only Gunn High School, whom they lost to 14-7 and 11-9 in the regular season.
The winner of the Paly Lynbrook face-off will go on to the semi-finals on Friday. The team needs to focus on winning this game before looking too far into the future, according to senior captain Ethan Look.
“We need to take it one game at a time,” Look said. “We can’t start thinking about Mountain View or Gunn until we beat Lynbrook.”
Look stressed the key role the Paly boys’ defense will play in securing their place in the semi-finals.
“The key to winning each game is going to be lights out defense on our part,” Look said. “If we hold our opponent to less than six goals, we know we will put up more goals than them. If we shut down Lynbrook’s top guys, expect to see us in the semis on Friday.”
With plans of success driving them forward, the Vikings are excited to create a happy ending to their season this year, according to Look.
The Vikings will challenge Lynbrook at 7 p.m. tonight at the Paly pool.
