With Palo Alto High School’s Spirit Week beginning tomorrow, the Parent Teacher Student Association has set its plans in motion for the “Homecoming Float and Spirit Dance Spectacular!” event Friday after school.

The “Homecoming Float and Spirit Dance Spectacular!” is an annual rally that takes place after school on Friday in which a spirit dance competition is held and student built floats are paraded across the Paly Viking Stadium.

According to Jane Gee, PTSA Spirit Week coordinator, the PTSA is looking to support and raise awareness for the float-parade rally by providing food for student float builders and inviting parents and alumni to attend the after-school event.

“We want to get as many Paly parents and alums out to the football field on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. to enjoy the float parade and spirit dance competitions,” Gee said.

The PTSA and the Palo Alto Unified School District will be spreading the word and promoting the event through e-mail, according to Gee.

Meanwhile, the PTSA will use funds from Spirit Week to support students working on class floats.

According to Barb Clark, vice president of PTSA communications, the PTSA has alloted about $250 in funds for each grade level to spend during Spirit Week, which is an amount that has been consistent with previous years’ budgets.

The PTSA’s use of the allotted money is flexible and is generally spent on food for students during float construction hours, according to Gee.

Float construction started yesterday and will continue everyday after school until 9 p.m. through Thursday in the Autoshop. The float parade and spirit dances will take place after school on Friday in Viking Stadium. For more information, visit the Associated Student Body website for details.
