Palo Alto High School rowers left on Thursday for Boston to compete in a major, national regatta this weekend.
The Head of the Charles is one of the largest Fall regattas, attracting over 9,000 athletes to compete and 300,000 spectators to the banks of the Charles River.
Three Paly rowers, juniors Zoe Bhargava, Christine Langston and senior Becca Althoff, represent part of the Norcal Crew boat to compete in the Women’s Youth Fours category. This category includes 85 entries.
“The Head of the Charles regatta is super exciting,” said Bhargava. As coxswain of the women’s four, Bhargava will steer her crew down the infamously difficult course of the river.
Another eight Paly rowers, juniors John Carter, Misha Hindery-Nelson, Marcelo Buxton, Chris Skokowski, Jaisel Sandhu, Clark Harmon and seniors Markus Burns and James Hindery-Nelson, represent portions of the Norcal Crew boats to compete in the Men’s Youth Fours and Men’s Youth Eights categories. Both races include 85 entries.
The Men’s Youth Fours event is scheduled for 6:26 a.m. PST on Sunday. The boat is bow No. 4.
The Men’s Youth Eights event is scheduled for 7:24 a.m. PST on Sunday. The boat is bow No. 37.
The Women’s Youth Fours event is scheduled for 9:25 a.m. PST on Sunday. The boat is bow No. 14.
