Palo Alto High School students have yet another reason to look forward to Spirit Week. In addition to a week of fun costumes and rallies, Paly will play host to a brand-new a capella group: The 8 T’s.
The 8 T’s (a pun on everyone’s favorite decade, the 80’s), consists of eight of Paly’s own faculty members, science teacher Elizabeth Brimhall, choir teacher Michael Najar, counselor Paige Johnson, math teacher Arne Lim, music teacher Jeff Wilner, special education teacher Elizabeth Mueller, science teacher Kelli Hagan and history teacher Steve Sabbag. And you guessed it, they cover only eighties music.
According to Brimhall, the group is Najar’s brain child.
“Michael Najar, talking with Paige and Liz M., decided it would be fun [to form a staff-only a capella group],” she said.
Although the exact reveal date is being kept a secret, Brimhall hinted that the 8 T’s will grace the student body with their sweet 80’s tunes at some point during Spirit Week, which starts on October 21st.
So, just in case students need another reason to dress up and attend the rallies, they now have the promise of seeing their favorite staff members perform a capella disco tunes for extra motivation.
But fun as it may be for students to be serenaded by a capella 80’s music, they aren’t the only ones who benefit from the faculty’s new musical endeavor.
“It [the 8 T’s] makes me happy and builds a community,” Brimhall said.
