The Palo Alto High School volleyball team (10-3, 0-0) will try to rebound after a disappointing tournament when they open their league season tonight at 6:45 p.m. by hosting the Los Gatos High School Wildcats (4-3, 0-0).
The Vikings started this season out on fire, going 8-1 in their first nine games, but slowed down on Saturday, going 2-2 in the Harbor High School tournament in Santa Cruz.
Tonight, they look to do something that they didn’t do last weekend: play error-free volleyball.
“We’re hoping to play good, clean volleyball,” junior middle blocker Abby Strong said.
Los Gatos, which finished third in league last year, has lost some starters and had a bit of a slow start, but should be prepared to take on its league rival in the defending-league-champion Vikings.
“We’re coming in confident, but not cocky,” senior middle blocker Lauren Kerr said. “We’re ready to adjust to whatever they throw at us. They have lost some starters but they’ll definitely be fired up for tonight.”
The Vikings began this season with the ultimate goal of defending their league title.
“The competition is tough this year, but our main goal to win league is definitely reachable,” Kerr said.
The Vikings will be staying at home for the remainder of the week when they play Homestead at 6:45 p.m. Thursday night.
