Student photography now adorns the previously blank walls of Palo Alto High School’s library as part of a student run Photo Exhibition.

The exhibition is being held by the Paly Art Show, a club that hosts various art exhibits displaying student art both on and off campus. Its first show, the Photo Exhibition, will be located in the library in the space next to the computer lab for two weeks and will then move to the Guidance Office.

The club strives to provide opportunities for Paly artists and photographers to showcase their work, club President Julia Lee said.

According to Lee, all art displayed in the exhibitions are student submissions, and all student art is accepted. Shows often display multiple mediums of art, including paintings, charcoal, sketches, photos and sculptures, unless the art show is exclusive to a specific media.

“We promote our exhibitions at least a few weeks prior to the actual show so that we can give enough time for artists and photographers to submit, and to let the student body know what kind of exhibition is coming up and which media of art we will be accepting,” Lee said.

The Paly Art Show also aims to raise awareness for the local art organization DrawBridge, which operates in seven counties in California.

“We also support an external organization called DrawBridge, a non-profit that provides art programs to homeless children, by providing pamphlets and donation envelopes at some of our shows,” Lee said.

Alongside the Photo Exhibition, the Paly Art Show is also planning for other exhibits which will be held in various cafes, libraries, community centers, the Veteran’s Hospital and the Palo Alto Art Center. It will also hold its annual May Show at the Lucie Stern Community Center.
