Paly students looking to spend time at Town and Country can now enjoy a more predictable walk across Embacadero Road thanks to countdown timers installed today in the crossing lights.
The new timers count down from 13 seconds.
The intersection has been a constant source of debate for members of the community, as some students have complained about the short crossing times allotted for pedestrians. In contrast, students crossing the street after the light turns red has been an issue for pedestrians and drivers alike.
Junior Oliver Wang believes that the new countdown timers will do little to alleviate these exisitng problems.
“It won’t change a lot,” Wang said. “The reason kids keep crossing after the light [changes] isn’t that they don’t know the light is red.”
